Read More	BGLR, US Army, World War I BEDFORD TIMES-PRESS Thursday September 4, 1975 Bruce Mason, 80 Final Rites Held August 29 Funeral services for Bruce Clifton Mason, 80, of New Market, a lifelong resident of Taylor County, were held August 29 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford. Mr. Mason died August 26, 1975, at Clarinda's Municipal Hospital. New Market American Legion Post No. 300 presented military honors at Memory Cemetery, New Market. Bruce Clifton Mason, son of Elroy and Arvilla Mason, was born at New Market, Iowa, on July 20, 1895. He lived in Taylor County all of his life. He graduated from New Market High School, attended business college at Quincy, Illinois, and later served as Postmaster for New Market for 14 years. He was a member of the 337th Machine Gun Battalion, 88 Division in World War I, and a Charter Member of the American Legion Post No. 300 of New Market, Iowa. He continued this membership for 53 years. He was also a member of Tucker Post U. F. W. #8094. He served on the Soldiers Relief Board of Taylor County for 30 years, and for a time was a member of the Masonic Lodge. On August 16, 1930, he was united in marriage to Correla Nuzum at Albert Lee, Minnesota. They lived in New Market for 10 years then they moved to their farm home near New Market. To this union were born three children: Bruce Judson, Beverlee Sue and Rosalind June. Bruce Judson Mason is a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army and is stationed in Edgewood, Maryland. Beverlee Sue Schletzbaum is an elementary teacher, and resides in Wichita, Kansas. Rosalind June Swart is Vice President for Research and Development of Alpha II Inc. Besides his immediate family, those left to cherish his memory are his two sisters: Phyllis Hill of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lois Adkins of Eureka, Calif.; six grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
