There was heavy fog in the area at the time of the accident. Killed were Gerald Kohl, 26, of Clarks [NE], driver of one of the cars. Bruce Butt, 17, of Central City, the driver of the other car, and Robin Somovich, 18, of Central City, a passenger in the Butt car were also killed. Three other persons were injured in the accident. Kohl's wife Linda, 24, was in serious condition and their daughter Lynette, 3, was in fair condition at a local hospital. Jerel Ross, 17, of Central City, a passenger in the Butt car, was also hospitalized in serious condition. The three Central City youths were seniors at the Central City Public High School. --------------------------- Personal Note: Bruce Butt and his friends were going to Clarks to have lunch with Louis Butt - who was hauling corn to the Clarks Elevator. No one saw the accident. The first driver to come upon the wreck, in the middle of the highway, was the Central City Catholic Priest. ---------------------- Obituary: Central City Newspaper - date unknown: Funeral services for Bruce John Butt were held from St. Paul's Lutheran Church Saturday, January 18, 1969 with the Rev. A.H. Wagner officiating. Burial was in the Central City [NE] Cemetery. Mrs. Walter Raecke, organist, accompanied Tom Cunningham when he sang "Changing Scenes" and "Morning Breaks Upon the Tomb". Active pallbearers were Dick Butt, Darwin Ruge, Doug Wagner, Terry Trosper, Norman Kaiser and Marlo Broekemeier. Honorary pallbearers were Dick Brown, Larry Downs, Paul Torpin, Bryan Armatys, Larry Johnson and Steve Blodgett. A lifetime resident of Central City, he was born August 18, 1951, in Central City, the son of Louis and Alvera Butt. A member of the senior class at Central City High School, he was a member of the Thespians, the C.C. Club, St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Walther League. He is survived by his parents; a brother, Jeffrey of Lincoln [NE]; one sister, Judy Munn of Falls City NE and grandparents, Mrs. Minnie Butt of Central City and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Johannes of Chapman [NE].
