Description	:	Bruce Lynn Swanson, 70 years of age, of rural Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Bruce was born on November 28, 1946 in Holdrege, the second of four children born to Francis Edward and Betty Lou (Hubbard) Swanson. Read More	Bruce Lynn Swanson, 70 years of age, of rural Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Bruce was born on November 28, 1946 in Holdrege, the second of four children born to Francis Edward and Betty Lou (Hubbard) Swanson. He attended Holdrege Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1965. He then pursued higher education at Kearney State College and Hastings Community College. Following his education, Bruce enlisted into the United States Army on June 13, 1966. He was stationed in Germany for three years and on March 14, 1969, he was honorably discharged. On February 3, 1968, Bruce was united in marriage to Alice Ann Peterson and the couple was blessed with three children: Amy, Darrin, and Maria. The family made their home on a farm southeast of Holdrege, where Bruce engaged in his life’s passion of farming. He loved being outdoors and spent many hours in his garden and was very proud of his lawn. Bruce enjoyed attending his grandkids activities, taking walks with his dog, Bentley, going to morning coffee in Funk, and attending Fit Farmers at the YMCA. Bruce was a faithful member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, where he served in many capacities including past Sunday school teacher, a member of the church council, committees, and as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the R-7 school board, the Funk Lions and the COOP Equity Board. Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Francis Swanson; father-in-law and mothers-in-law: Quinten Peterson, Leona Peterson, and Wilma Peterson. He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife of 49 years, Alice Ann Swanson of Holdrege; three children: Amy Johnson and her husband, Kelly, of Grand Island, Nebraska, Darrin Swanson and his wife, Lori of Holdrege, and Maria Andersen and her husband, Garth of Gothenburg, Nebraska; eight grandchildren: Austin Swanson and his wife, Reinette of Olathe, Kansas, Lex and Eli Swanson of Holdrege, Garret, Walker and Jacque Johnson of Grand Island and Neligh and Gage Andersen of Gothenburg; his mother, Betty Swanson of Holdrege; one brother, Clyde Swanson of Holdrege; two sisters: Janice Erickson and her husband, Ed of Holdrege and Kathy Boyer and her husband, Dave of Norfolk, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Daniel Peterson and his wife, Hulda of Holdrege, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services for Bruce L. Swanson will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating. Burial will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, with Military Honors provided by the United States Army Funeral Honors Team. The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of the arrangements.
