He died July 4, 2005 at his home. Bruce Thomas McShane, son of LeRoy and Theresa (McConville) McShane, was born March 23, 1933 at Ellendale. He attended Ellendale Public School and graduated with the class of 1950. He enlisted in the United States Army in June of 1950 and served with the 1st Cavalry Division in Korea and Japan until his honorable discharge in October of 1952. He then returned home. He was united in marriage to LaPalma Tiegs on September 3, 1955 in St. Helena's Catholic Church at Ellendale. He attended The State Normal and Industrial College in Ellendale, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1956. He joined the Ashley Public School system that same year as the Industrial Arts teacher. Bruce began his Masters Program in 1956 and graduated from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colo. in 1959. In 1960, he started a post-graduate program at Colorado College, Greeley, Colo. and completed four summers of the program. He was a teacher, principal and administrator in the Ashley Public School system for 40 years (32 years as superintendent). He retired in July of 1996. He was a member of St. David's Catholic Church at Ashley, the Ashley Lions Club for 44 years, North Dakota Association of School Administrators for 35 years, Lake Hoskins Improvement Association, Coldwater Wildlife Club and a lifetime member of the Bismarck Elks. He also served on the Ashley Hospital Board for six years. In addition, he was a member of Frank Piper American Legion Post #53 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife of Ashley; two sons, Thomas (Karen) McShane and grandson, Ian of Eagan, Minn. and David (Suzie) McShane and grandsons, Ryan, Christopher and Jon of Bismarck N.D.; one daughter, Joan (Rick) Barnhardt and grandson, Joshua of Bismarck and one sister, Karen McShane of Green Valley, Ariz. His parents and one brother, Patrick preceded him in death. Casketbearers will be Donald and Claudette Kosel, Ray and Shirley Bauer, Reinhold and Phyllis Bendewald, Dale and Peggy Koppelman, Bud and Joan Overbo and Max Wishek. The family prefers memorial be made to Ashley Medical Center or Ashley Medical Center Hospice, PO Box 450 or Ashley Park Board, PO Box 97, Ashley, N.D. 58413.
