Read More	Son of Peter & Fannie Mennen Peters Veteran of World War 2 Bruno Peters, age 95, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Peter and Fannie (Mennen) Peters on September 12, 1916, in Butler County, near Aplington, Iowa. He received his education from a rural country school near his home. Until he went into the service Bruno worked for various local farmers as a farm hand. He was drafted into the United States Army on August 13, 1942, serving overseas in Africa and Europe during World War II. Bruno served as a cook. He was often distinguished with the honor for cooking special meals for Generals at different times. He was honorably discharged on October 12, 1945. On January 2, 1946, Bruno was united in marriage with Catherine Elizabeth Ackerman at her parent's home north of Aplington. The couple made their home and farmed their first seven years of marriage on a farm south of Allison. They moved to a farm north of Aplington, that they called home and Bruno retired in 2000. Bruno lived on their farm up until two years ago, when he moved to the Maple Manor Village in Aplington. Bruno was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in rural Aplington and also the Aplington AMVETS. Through the years Bruno enjoyed taking many fishing trips to Canada and when they got home, they would always enjoy a good fish fry. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Bruno loved working on the farm and was proud to be called a farmer. Bruno died Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Peters on August 24, 2008; his parents; and two brothers, Ecko and Louis Peters. Bruno is survived by three sisters-in-law, Jessie Peters of Aplington, Iowa, Bernice Busse of Allison, Iowa and Kathy Ackerman of Allison, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great great-nieces and great great-nephews.
