Colonel Bryant Holbert Harrill, 91, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Larry Zaky. Burial will follow with full military honors at Sunset Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Burroughs-Cooper-Kiser Funeral Home. Born August 4, 1922 in Forest City, NC, he was the son of the late Charles Bryan and Glannie Holbert Harrill. Mr. Harrill was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church. He graduated from Lower Marlboro High School in Blenheim, and attended Clemson University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He served as a combat pilot in World War II, flying B-29 bombers in the Pacific theater and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was recalled to serve during the Korean War, flying B-36 bombers stateside. He continued serving in the United States Air Force Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Col. Flying continued to be a life-long passion for Mr. Harrill. He was the owner and operator of Bryant's Machine Shop and H & H Manufacturing Company for over 60 years, designing and fabricating agricultural equipment. He was a skilled metal worker and an avid woodworker. Along with his parents listed above, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Nickles Harrill, and his second wife, Betty Byrd Harrill; and his sister, Ann HarrillWoolf. He is survived by his sons, James Bryant Harrill and wife, Peggy of Florence, David Harrill of Charlotte, and George Harrill and wife, Josie of Bennettsville; a daughter, Susan Driggers and husband, Randy of Greenville, NC; a step-son, Ronnie Byrd and wife, Susie of Darlington; a step-daughter, Connie Woodard and husband, Frankie of Darlington; and five grandchildren, Maggie, Hunter, Becky, Jenny and Jim. Memorials may be made to the Marlboro County Rescue Squad, PO Box 123, Bennettsville, SC 29512. Burroughs-Cooper-Kiser Funeral Home is assisting the Harrill family.
