His mother was Helga Thorvaldsdottir from Hoskuldstodum. Halldora, his wife, was born in 1856, daughter of Sigvaldi Bjornsson and Valgerdur Bjornsdottir in Kelduhverfi. His mother was Helga Thorvaldsdottir from Hoskuldstodum. Halldora, his wife, was born in 1856, daughter of Sigvaldi Bjornsson and Valgerdur Bjornsdottir in Kelduhverfi. Brynjolfur met Halldora in Jorvik at Hoseas Bjornsson's, her uncle. They married and both worked at Hoskuldstadarseli. Here their first child, Sigvaldi, was born in 1876. Due to poverty in the country both from volcanic ash killing the sheep and being overcrowded, Brynjolfur and Halldora decided to go to America. Josep Sigvaldason (Walter), Halldora's brother and Vilborg, Brynjolfur's sister, decided to go with them. Thus, the little company left Iceland by boat and arrived in Markland, Nova Scotia in 1878. Brynjolfur got a job felling trees at a lumber camp at Musquodoboit for a dollar a day. If they thought they were poor in Iceland, they were even poorer in Nova Scotia. They lived in a house poorly chinked, and little Sigvaldi well remembered the bears forcing their claws through the chinks in the logs, trying to get food or the occupants. He also remembered hunger, and if he was hungry, how hungry were his parents? With help of Halldora's brothers, they moved to Winnipeg in 1881, probably by train to St. Paul and then to Winnipeg. Two years later, in 1883, they moved to Argyle Municipality, homesteading SE 28-6-13. This land was part marsh and good pasture land. Wild geese and ducks abounded. A fire ravaged the prairie in the fall of 1886. The fire was not contained until it reached the railway between Cypress and Glenboro. Some farmers lost hay, barns and cattle. Thos was an awesome experience. Shortly after that, Brynjolfur had it in mind to move further south in the district. In 1893, Brynjolfur and Halldora homesteaded E 28-513 and built a small house, two stables and a granary. Thus, they farmed here, and by 1907, were able to build a large drive-in barn, and in 1908, a two-storey house, which is still occupied by the present owners. Brynjolfur and Halldora had 12 children of whom four died in infancy. Their home was always open to friends and relatives, and indeed was a home at the side of the road for many a wayfarer. Halldora was a midwife and helped many families when trouble or sickness knocked.at the door. Brynjolfur was a quiet, homeloving man whose first concern was for the welfare of his family. They had worship services in their home until Frelsis and the Frikirk churches were built. Brynjolfur passed away Dec. 10, 1914. Harry and the girls helped their mother farm until 1924, when she sold out. In 1925, the Dunnings took over the farm. Halldora passed away March 24, 1941.
