He was born March 1, 1920 in Hepler, a son of William Charles and Alpha Omega (Enloe) Harris. Bud grew up and attended schools in Hepler and graduated from Hepler High School.Bud married Florence Ellen Westhoff on August 4, 1938 at St. Patrick's Church in Walnut. Harris, 93, of Girard, died at 1:35 p.m., Sunday, July 21, 2013 in the Girard Medical Center. He was born March 1, 1920 in Hepler, a son of William Charles and Alpha Omega (Enloe) Harris. Bud grew up and attended schools in Hepler and graduated from Hepler High School.Bud married Florence Ellen Westhoff on August 4, 1938 at St. Patrick's Church in Walnut. They were married 74 years, 11 and one-half months and she survives in Girard. He worked for the CCC camp during the construction of the Farlington Lake and later the family moved to Idaho and Oregon from 1947 until 1954. Bud was the Mayor of Hepler for 25 plus years and he and his wife owned and operated the Harris Grocery Store in Hepler from 1957 until 1978. Bud and his wife also owned and operated Harris Ammonia Service, Inc. in Hepler from 1962 until 1996.Bud was a member of the Hepler Fire Department, a charter member of the Hepler Ruritan Club, and he received numerous awards from fertilizer and chemical associations, and he was a supporter of the Crawford County 4-H Clubs.He enjoyed his family, visiting with friends and family, and deer hunting in Wisconsin. Survivors, in addition to his wife of Girard are sons William L. Harris and his wife Patricia of Rossville, Kansas; Donald Lee Harris and his wife Penny of Neillsville, Wisconsin; Larry Harris and his wife Lois of Duncan, Oklahoma; his daughters Sandra K. Bird of Kansas City, Missouri; Jean Nichols and Ron Gates of Girard; 17 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine O'Brien, on July 10, 1988, a granddaughter, Danielle Lynn Harris, April 4, 1982, 3 brothers and 1 sister; son-in-law Charles Bird on March 26, 1994. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at St. Michael's Church in Girard with Fr. Roger Lumbre officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery at Walnut.The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after 1:00 p.m., Tuesday.Memorials are suggested to the Hepler Hustlers4-H Club or the Hepler Ruritan Club and these may be left at the church or the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743
