Description	:	Bueford Willie Jenkins, 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of Aug. 11, 2011, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. He was born on Nov. 22, 1921, in Ponce de Leon, Fla., to Will and Letha Jenkins. Bueford was the youngest of five children. He graduated from DeFuniak High School in 1942. Read More	Bueford Willie Jenkins, 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of Aug. 11, 2011, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. He was born on Nov. 22, 1921, in Ponce de Leon, Fla., to Will and Letha Jenkins. Bueford was the youngest of five children. He graduated from DeFuniak High School in 1942. Soon after graduation he joined the Navy and served 3 ½ years during World War II on merchant marine ships manning guns on round-the-clock watches. After being discharged from the Navy, Mr. Jenkins enrolled at the University of Texas in Austin, where he graduated with a degree in transportation. This is where he met the love of his life, Bette Jo Jones. The two were married on June 20, 1947. Mr. Jenkins worked for various transportation companies and finally returned back to Fort Walton Beach in 1976, where he took a job with Okaloosa County Planning and Zoning. He retired from the county in 1988. After retiring he and his wife enjoyed some of life's simple pleasures, such as traveling, fishing, reading Western paperback novels, and the occasional trip to Biloxi. He was known for his love of family and a great sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bette Jo Jenkins; and three sons, Bueford W. Jr. "Butch" and wife, Cindy, David and wife, Debbie, and Pat and wife, Linda. He also is survived by four granddaughters and five great-granddaughters.
