Burdell Clarence Bohn was born on May 26, 1926, to Harvey and Rose (Sogn) Bohn on the family farm in Butler Township, South Dakota. He was the second of four boys born to Harvey and Rose; Vernon, Burdell, Wesley and William. He was baptized at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol and he became a lifelong member there. Burdell went to Country School No. 139 near Butler for grades one through eight, and then attended and graduated from Bristol High School in 1944. Burdell met the love of his life, Muriel Ostroot of Lake Preston, South Dakota, while she was teaching school in Bristol. They were married on August 28, 1949 in Lake Preston by Reverend Borg-Breen of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol. Four children were born to them between 1950 and 1961. Burdell taught himself to play the trumpet at about 10 or 11 years of age. Throughout his life he played "Taps" at many funerals in Bristol and neighboring towns. Burdell and Muriel loved singing and sang duets in church, at funerals and other special events throughout their years in the Bristol area. Burdell sang in several quartets and was a member of the Singing Farmers group for many years. Burdell was an avid collector of antiques and other items including toy farm equipment. He owned many antique cars and tractors and restored several of them. Burdell and Muriel were long-time members of the Andover Threshing Club where they founded the Toy Shed building and started the Children's Pedal Tractor Pull. They were founding members of the Museum of Wildlife, Science and Industry of Northeast South Dakota located in Webster, South Dakota, where they donated and restored the Sogn House and displayed some of their antiques. Burdell served on several Boards over the years including Church, Museum, and the Day County Farm Service Administration. In 1990, Burdell and Muriel retired and moved to Bristol. Burdell began woodworking and made many toys and other small items after he retired. In November 2019 they moved into Grand Living Senior Living facility in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where they would be closer to family. Burdell is survived by Muriel, his wife of 71 years, David (Sandy) Bohn of Ham Lake, MN, LuAnn (Jay) Van Hunnik of Keystone, SD, Barbara (Paul) Weidenbach of Parkston, SD and Carol (Jeff) Waring of Sioux Falls, SD, 8 grandchildren David (Katie) Bohn, Jeffrey (Kate) Bohn, Elizabeth (Kevin) Landwehr, Sarah (Chris) Rivera, Jacob (Stevi) Weidenbach, Amy (Aaron) Fox, Brandon (Carolyn) Smith, Cameron Smith, and 13 great grandchildren. Burdell passed peacefully at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls on 3/16 of 2021.
