He died June 24, 1969, at St.John's hospital, Salina, Kansas, after a short illness. He moved to Gove, Kansas, with his parents at an early age. He had been a resident of Tescott, Kansas, for the past seventy years. He was section foreman for the Union Pacific Railroad for 35 years, retiring in the fall of 1937. HAPES Burdett Nathan Hapes was born September 17, 1880, in Mahaska County, Iowa. He died June 24, 1969, at St.John's hospital, Salina, Kansas, after a short illness. He moved to Gove, Kansas, with his parents at an early age. He had been a resident of Tescott, Kansas, for the past seventy years. He was section foreman for the Union Pacific Railroad for 35 years, retiring in the fall of 1937. He was a member of the Old Timers Club of Retired Railroad men and was a life member of Old Fellows Lodge of Tescott. On June 24, 1903, he was united in marriage to Audry Cathern Davis of Tescott. To this union were born six children. He is preceeded in death by his wife, his Father and Mother, three sons, one daughter, two granddaughters, and one great-grandson, also by five sisters and six brothers. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Thelma Peterson of Tescott, and Mrs. Velsie Tatlock of Lyons, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Herrington of Manhattan and Mrs. Orpha Sessin of Hays, he also leaves ten grandchildren, twenty three great-granchildren, and six great-great-granchildren, plus many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Hall Memorial Chapel at Lincoln, Kansas, June 27, with the Rev. Duane Levin in charge. Music was funished by Mrs. Aletha Nelson, and Mr. Jerry Nelson with Mrs. Marjorie Percival as accompanist. Casket bearers were John Hamilton, Karl Minneman, Wilburn Harper, Dane Nelson, Robert Berkly, and Clarence Hurtig. Internment was in the Franklin Cemetery at Tescott.
