Description	:	Burdette Burns, 92, of Sioux Falls, died Sunday, June 17, 2007 at his residence following a long illness. Burdette was born April 15, 1915 in Sutherland, Iowa. As a child, he moved to Sioux Falls with his family. He received his education in Sioux Falls, graduating from Washington High School in 1936. Read More	Burdette Burns, 92, of Sioux Falls, died Sunday, June 17, 2007 at his residence following a long illness. Burdette was born April 15, 1915 in Sutherland, Iowa. As a child, he moved to Sioux Falls with his family. He received his education in Sioux Falls, graduating from Washington High School in 1936. On January 28, 1939, he was united in marriage with Shirley Iversen in Sioux Falls, SD. Following high school, Burdette worked with his father at Package Delivery. Upon his father’s death in 1947, he became president of Package Delivery and worked in the business with his brothers, Bob and Ken. He later established Burns Moving and Storage with his brother, Bob. Burdette was president of the company until his retirement in 1981. Mr. Burns was a past president of the South Dakota Trucker’s Association. He was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral and Christ The King Parishes, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club. Burdette and Shirley loved to travel in their motor home. They traveled extensively across the United States and abroad. Burdette was predeceased by his wife, Shirley on May 5, 2003; his sons, David and Brian Burns; a sister, Donna; and two brothers, Ken and Bob. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, June 21, 2007 at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location. Interment will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visitation begins at 4:00 pm Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home.
