Anderson and took from their loving embrace their little baby, Hicks. Little Burgess Hicks Anderson was born May 2, 1916, departed this life July 17, 1918, making his stay on earth 1 year, 2 months, and 15 days. (NOTE: either the death date is 1917, or he was 2 years old, 2 months and 15 days when he died. He was probably 2 years old because the obit mentions... Read More	From the newspaper obituary for Little Burgess Hicks Anderson: On the morning of July 17, 1918, the angel of death came to the house of Mr. and Mrs. S.E. Anderson and took from their loving embrace their little baby, Hicks. Little Burgess Hicks Anderson was born May 2, 1916, departed this life July 17, 1918, making his stay on earth 1 year, 2 months, and 15 days. (NOTE: either the death date is 1917, or he was 2 years old, 2 months and 15 days when he died. He was probably 2 years old because the obit mentions his little brothers, which would have been Ray and Dwight, the latter of which was born Aug. 29, 1917. So, the tombstone death date should probably be 2018.) He was sick 2 months with that dreadful disease choleara infantum. Little Hicks was a bright and loving babe. He was loved so dearly by his little friends and his little brothers. His little 3-year old brother told some of his neighbors that his little brother was going to die. His remains were conveyed from Williamson, WV, to his resting place at Pine Branch, VA, by his uncle and aunt Thomas and Anna Halsey, Fount Lowe, and 3 members of the Woodman Lodge, as his father and mother could not go. Funeral services were conducted by E.W. Reedy, Walter Hash, and his uncle E.J. Halsey who spoke words of comfort to his bereaved relatives and friends. . . . with the redeemed forever. His relatives and friends came forward and decorated his little, newly made grave in token of the love of their little friends who had gone to live with Jesus. Mother and father, weep not for little Hicks; he is not dead, but sleeping so sweetly in the arms of his blessed Redeemer. Put your trust in him who is able to save and hope to meet your darling again in the sweet bye and bye. Little Hicks was only planted on earth to bloom for a little while and then to fade away. Budded on earth to bloom in heaven. He is gone but not forgotten, Never will his memory fade; Sweetest thoughts will ever linger Around the grave where he is laid.
