Dieterich, at Parsons, Kansas, September 17, 1918, age 34 years, 10 months. He leaves to mourn his loss, mother, six sisters and four brothers, Mrs. Anna Griggs, Mrs. Corneilia Shanes, Mrs. Ella Hayden, Mrs. Alice McHenry, Mrs. Jennie Springer and Mrs. Bertha Whitehead. His brothers are: John Edward, George Henry, Earnest T. and Baltz Oliver. His father, two sisters, and one brother preceded him to the better land. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at Gorin, Friday conducted by Rev. W. A. Kleckner and burial in the Etna Cemetery. Burlie was timekeeper for the Pipe Line Company and was taken sick at Independence, Kansas and he barely reached the home of his brother at Parsons, about thirty-five miles from Independence, September 13 and took his bed in about one hour after reaching his home. A doctor was summoned at once and messages were sent to his mother immediately and she and her son, J. E. who was visiting her at the time left immediately for the home of her son at Parsons. But all that could be done for him to save his life was lost. While he had never professed any religion, yet just two hours before he died Rev. J. T. Crawford called at his bedside and explained to him the way of eternal life, and while the prayer of this righteous man went up to heaven for him Burlie said that he did take Jesus for his personal Savior and knew that every thing was right in the sight of God. His mother and two brothers, John Edward and George Henry was at his bedside when death came. Burlie underwent an operation at Rochester, Minnesota, about two years ago for ulcers of the stomach and seemed to be in good health afterward, but this dreadful disease returned together with locked bowels which caused his death.
