Description	:	Burton H. Moomey, 94, of Grand Island, formerly of Kearney, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at the Grand Island Veterans Home. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. The Rev. Michelle Reed will officiate. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon, with military honors conducted by the Ravenna VFW Post 5820. Mr. Moomey was born Aug. 8, 1918, in Dannebrog to Fred and J. Sophia (Nielsen) Moomey. Survivors of the immediate family include a brother, Earl of Junction City, Ore; a sister, Rachel Schaefer of Seattle, Wash.; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Alfred and Jill Catlin of Kearney, Randy and Sue Catlin of Beaver Crossing; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Anson of Greensboro, N.C.; and 11 stepgrandchildren. Additional survivors include many nieces and nephews. Burton grew up in Sherman County and received his education from Wiggle Creek High School. He served in the Army during WWII, receiving an honorable discharge in September of 1945. After returning home from the war, he farmed in Sherman County. Burton was married to Beulah Catlin in Bushton, Kan., on July 28, 1978. She died in 1991. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Kearney and the VFW Post 5820 in Ravenna.
