Description	:	Burton was the son of John Pope and Nancy (maiden name unknown) who were in the 1850 Catawba County, NC census with Daniel, one of John's sons from a previous marriage. Nancy's daughter Margaret Clifford is also in the household, as is her son, Joseph, by a Sanders. Burton was born about 1852, for he and Craig are 8 years old in the 1860 Fannin County, Georgia census with their mother. Their father, John, had passed in NC in 1856. Some of her siblings were John, Thomas, Martha, Mary Ellen, Falby, Robert, Margaret and Amos. Burton and Mealer were parents of Henry, Nancy, John R., Manuel Burton, and Mylus Joshua, all born in Georgia. They moved from Fannin county to the Prospect community of Bradley County around 1900. It is not known whether Permelia died in Fannin before they moved, or shortly after they arrived in Bradley.
