Behrer, pastor of the Edgington Presbyterian Church officiated and burial was in the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral services were held this morning, Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., at the Ralph J. Wittich Funeral Home, in Muscatine, IA. Rev. Alfred E. Behrer, pastor of the Edgington Presbyterian Church officiated and burial was in the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials for the American Heart Association may be left with the Wittich Funeral Home. He was born April 25, 1921 in Illinois City, a son of Bert and Bessie Yeater Girls. He farmed most of his life in the Buffalo Prairie area and then became owner operator of Edgington Construction Co., retiring to Arizona in 1982. He was a member of the Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church; the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge; and the Kaaba Temple Shrine, Davenport, IA. He had devoted many hours as a 4-H leader, and was a youth leader for the Presbyterian Youth Group for several years. Mr. Girls was recognized for his conservation efforts in farming by the Rock Island County Soil and Water Conservation District in 1963. He married Patricia Pilgrim on Oct. 9, 1976 in Burlington, IA. Survivors include his wife of Peoria, AZ; two daughters, Nikki Girls of Indianapolis, IN and Pam Brockman of Phoenix; two sons, Keith Girls of Reynolds and Jeff Brockman of Jackson Hole, WY; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
