Byrl Bradford Fenton was born April 18, 1927 in Miner County to Kenneth and Irene (Dennis) Fenton. He attended grade school at the #5 Harter Country School. Read More	Byrl Bradford Fenton, passed away March 24, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Canistota South Dakota at the age of 85 years, eleven months. Byrl Bradford Fenton was born April 18, 1927 in Miner County to Kenneth and Irene (Dennis) Fenton. He attended grade school at the #5 Harter Country School. He attended High School in Howard South Dakota. He joined the U.S. Navy on October 31, 1944 at the age of 17. He was in active duty overseas during World War II where he received the Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and European African Middle Eastern Area Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on July 13, 1946. Byrl was united in marriage to Alma Leona Johnson on May 16, 1947 at Pipestone, Minnesota. The couple lived in the Canova area where Byrl started his own graveling business, Fenton Construction. His son and grandsons are currently operating the business. He served on the school board for the Canova Independent School District for a number of years; he was a deacon for the United Church of Christ, Canova; a member of the Canova American Legion and drove school bus for the Canova and Howard school districts. Byrl loved to go for evening rides with Alma, listening to music, reading and especially hunting big game in the Black Hills with family and friends. In recent years he had purchased a small cabin in the Black Hills and thoroughly enjoyed spending time there. Byrl was a family centered man and liked nothing better than spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Those grateful for having shared his life include his son: Dalton (Bev) of Canova, SD; 3 daughters: Annette (Allan) Oswald of Canova, SD; Roberta (Rocky) Brinkman of Pickstown, SD: Kari Jo (Terry) Carlson, Canova SD; 7 grandchildren: Mandy (Ryan) Baier of Sioux Falls, SD; Jan Fenton, Kenneth Fenton (Nikkole Muck) of Canova, SD; Brandy (Steve) Janish of Milbank, SD; John (Jessica) Oswald of Sioux Falls SD; Curt Carlson of Sioux Falls, SD; Doug (Ali) Carlson of Sioux Falls, SD; 6 great grandchildren: Tylee and Trenton Oswald, Isaac and Christopher Janish; Carter and Cade Baier; a sister-in-law: Freda Johnson of Howard SD; a nephew: Richard (Jean) Johnson of Canova SD and a niece: Diana Meyer of Sioux Falls,SD.
