Winship, a son. --------------------------------------------------- Obituary- REMAINS OF BYRON STANTON INTERRED AT COLUSA CEMETERY; HAD LED A MOST ACTIVE LIFE. The remains of Byron A. Stanton, adopted son and nephew of Sheriff C. D. Stanton, arrived in Colusa last evening by way of the Northern Electric from San Francisco where his death occured Sunday morning at 6:30 o'clock. The cause of death was tuberculosis of the bladder from which he had been a sufferer for many months. Saturday morning, following an operation for the disease, his condition became alarming, his relatives were notified. Mr. and Mrs. Stanton went at once to his bedside, where they remained until death came to release the sufferer. Miss Fay Bunny, to whom Stanton had been engaged to marry for the past two years was also at the bedside. The funeral was conducted this morning at 10:30 from our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Rev. Father McGrath sang the high mass of Requem and read the funeral rites, Rev. Father Hickey, of Santa Clara University, delivered a sermon. The interment took place at the Colusa Cemetery where the remains were laid to rest beside his mother, Mrs. Ada Stanton Winship, who preceded him in death many years ago. The funeral was under the direction of Sullivan Bros. and the pallbearers were: D. J. Kammerer, Daryl DeJarnatt, Clifford Rutledge, Lawrence O'Rourke, Cecil Scott and Ralph Schleich. The deceased was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Winship, the latter a sister of Sheriff Stanton. Following the death of Mrs. Winship her son was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Stanton. A sister of the deceased, Mrs. Clara Williams, was expected to sail for this country from Liverpool last week and may now be upon the ocean. For the past two years she with her husband lived in London where the latter held a position as a musician in Gaby Desyls' company. While the deceased had only reached the comparatively early age of thirty years, he had led a most active life and had succeeded in crowding into a brief span many experiences. For years he was a purser of various vessels plying between San Francisco and Asiatic ports. About two years ago he transferred to the Atlantic service but soon returned to the Pacific. More recently he was employed on a vessel making the round trip to the Panama Canal from San Francisco. On one of his many voyages to the orient he was shipwrecked off the stormy coast of China. His reputation as a young man of high character and splendid qualities extends over many miles of land and sea. His friends in Colusa are to be numbered by the hundreds and their sympathy goes out immeasurably to the sorrowing family and the heartbroken young woman, the choice of his heart to whom he has bequeathed a deathless love.
