The remains of Byron Bush were brought to Jamestown on the train from the east this morning, coming to Valley City from Portal over the Soo road. The body was taken to the family residence from the train and arrangements were made to hold the funeral Friday at 3 p.m., from the M. E. church. Frank Daggett, a neighbor of Mr. Bush’s on the ranch 35 miles west of Portal, accompanied the remains to Jamestown. Mr. and Mrs. Bush, parents of the deceased, Morris beck and Undertaker H. C. Flint went as far as Carrington and met the Soo train at that point. The accident in which Mr. Bush lost his life occurred on White Earth creek, 25 miles from the ranch. R. Bush and a neighbor named Bell had gone to the creek to get some poles to use at the ranch. They were on their return and had traveled about five miles when the bridle came off one of the horses being driven by Mr. Bush. When the bridle came off the horses started to run away. Mr. Bush tried to stop them and in doing so fell over the front of the wagon to the ground. His neck was broken by the fall and the wheels of the wagon passed over his body crushing his chest. Mr. Bell, who was following with a wagon loaded with poles, reached Mr. Bush as quickly as he could and when he got there he found that the young man was beyond help. Mr. Bell placed the body on the wagon and proceeded to the ranch. On his arrival there the neighbors were notified and Mr. Daggett started for Portal, 35 miles away. The accident happened at 11 a.m. on Tuesday and that same evening Mr. Daggett reached Portal and sent a message to relatives here. The team driven by Mr. Bush were a spirited pair, being three and four years old respectively. They were purchased by H. B. Bush, father of deceased, $275 being paid for them, and were presented to the young man. The funeral of Byron Bush occurred this afternoon from the M. E. church and was largely attended. The body was escorted to the church by the members of the Knights of Pythias, of which deceased was a member. The Rathbone Sisters also attended in a body. The pall bearers were: John Curry, Will Thornhill, A. E. Simmons, John McElroy, Herman Wolf and Fred Kneebone. The services were conducted by Dr. Danford, who referred to the deceased as a young man having been a good citizen, popular with all and who would be sincerely mourned by many friends. The M. E. choir rendered a special program of music for the occasion and there were many beautiful floral offerings. The burial was at Highland Home cemetery and many went there to witness the last sad rites.
