Description	:	The Lord called Byron Clark Walter home on August 8th at the Huron Regional Medical Center after battling cancer for 3 ½ years. His funeral service was at 11:00 AM, on Friday, August 12th at the Mt. Olivet Church, with Rev. David Erdman and Rev. Jeremiah Betron officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Olivet Church Section of Ideal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Arlene requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to benefit grandson Nathan Walter, who is fighting his own battle with cancer, (acute myeloid leukemia) at this time. Byron was born in Huron, South Dakota, to Eli and Marie Walter on January 1, 1929. He was raised on a farm near Yale and graduated from Yale High School in 1947. While in high school he met Arlene Decker. They married on August 29, 1948, and lived in the Yale area where they raised four children. During the course of his adult life, Byron was a trucker, lugged beef, trapped, was a custom bale and hay hauler, and a sheep shearer, but his true passion was his farm and his cattle. He sold the last of his herd in January of this year, right after his 82nd birthday. He loved to play cards, dominoes, tell jokes and stories, spend time at their cabin on Lake Byron, and plant and tend to his fruit trees. He so enjoyed trips with Arlene in their motor home — especially to their beloved Black Hills. Byron will be missed by Arlene, his wife of 63 years; sons, Dallas of Cavour and Rex (Carol) of Huron; daughters, Carmen Holland of Oak View, California, and Dawn (Larry) Almond of Huron; grandsons, Corey (Kelie) Holland, Lance (Milly) Holland, and Dustin Holland all of Ojai, California, Nathan (Nikki) Walter of Aberdeen, Jesse Walter of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Justin Almond of Huron, and Reece Almond of St. Paul, Minnesota; granddaughters, Jessica (Raymond) Horsley of Pierre and Tonya (Adam) Koch of Kansas City, Kansas; great grand-children, Dylan Holland of Ojai, California, Addison Walter of Aberdeen, Morgan Holland of Ojai, California, Kylan, Damon, Noah, and Kaydence Horsley of Pierre; and Cody Koch of Kansas City, Kansas; and sisters, Marilyn (Albert) Decker of Huron and Neva Maas of De Smet. Byron was preceded in death by his parents, and Raymond, an infant brother.
