Description	:	MR. BYRON MITCHELL SALTER JR., age 80, and a resident of Alachua, Fla., died on Friday, November 25, 2005 in the E.T. York Hospice Care Center. Mr. Salter was born in Belfast, Maine and moved to Gainesville from Maine in 1940. In 1976 he moved to Alachua. Read More	MR. BYRON MITCHELL SALTER JR., age 80, and a resident of Alachua, Fla., died on Friday, November 25, 2005 in the E.T. York Hospice Care Center. Mr. Salter was born in Belfast, Maine and moved to Gainesville from Maine in 1940. In 1976 he moved to Alachua. Mr. Salter was a senior accountant at the University of Florida College of Engineering, and retired after 35 years. He was a graduate of Gainesville High School, served with Atlantic Transport Command out of Presque Isle during World War II, was an accountant for Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity at UF for 14 years, and at Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority at UF for 21 years as house accountant and financial advisor. He also worked at the University Northeast Regional Data Center. Mr. Salter was a member of North Central Baptist Church, and once was a deacon at North Central, and was an ordained Baptist minister. Living relatives include his wife, Dorothy Hartman Salter of Alachua; two sons: Byron M. (Mickey) Salter of Newberry and Keith Salter of Gainesville; one daughter, Mary Salter Decker of High Springs; one grandson, Chad Salter and one great-grandson, Darby Salter. Visitation was held Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Milam Funeral Home in Gainesville. Graveside funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2005 at Newnansville Cemetery in Alachua with the Rev. Steven Hartman conducting the service. Arrangements are under the care of Milam Funeral and Cremation Services, Gainesville, Fla. Expressions of sympathy may be made to a church of one's choice or Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
