Webb FAG47297921 m/1 Charlotte Gardner 4/30/1864 of Decatur, Green Co., WI. Maynard, May 2.—Cain Billings, who lived alone in Maynard, died at 9:20 Thursday forenoon, aged seventy-seven years. He had been in poor health all winter. It i s thought that a gathering in his head broke on the brain, causing almost total paralysis, which resulted in his death in two days. He was found Wednesday morning, sitting; in a semi-unconscious condition in a chair in his home, and remained in this condition until he passed away Thursday; Of his four children one died in infancy the other three—Frank of West Union, Arlie M. of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Fred Phippen of Waterloo—were all at his bedside when he died. Mrs. Billings died in February, 1903. Mr. Billings was one of the old residents, having lived in this county thirty-seven years, thirty-five years of the time in Maynard. He is survived by his two brothers at Kilbourne and Orfordville, Wis., two sisters—one at Orfordville and one in Chicago, and by an uncle in Pennsylvania, besides his children already mentioned. He was born in Luzerne county, Penn. April 5, 1834, and later located in Wisconsin, from which. state he enlisted in Company D of the Second Wisconsin infantry, a part of the famous Iron brigade. He later served in a United States cavalry regi-, ment, and was in twenty-eight engagements, including both battles at Bull Run, Gettysburg, Chancellorsville, and other leading battles of the war, being in the service for four years. The funeral was conducted at 2 o'clock Sunday from the Presbyterian church by Rev. J. N . Blodgett, and interment made in Long Grove cemetery.
