SAM RYMER DIES IN HOSPITAL Mrs. Sam J. Rymer passed away Friday, April 19, 1968 in Cumberland medical Center after an extended illness. She was born Caldonia Emaline Hassler on Jul 20, 1886, the youngest daughter of Margaret Fryar and James Hassler, well known and beloved pioneers of this section, who operated the first rest home in this county for many years. Mrs. Rymer was a sister to Mrs. Harve (Bessie) Burnett, Newton, Lon, Fatty John, Jesse, and Frank Hassler. She had an adopted sister, Lena Swicegood Duncan. Like her forebearers, she was a gifted musician and spread joy and comfort in the many places where she lived. Mrs. Rymer was a wonderful nurse and gave care and aid to hundreds during her lifetime. On August 27, 1905, she was married to Samuel J. Rymer, mining engineer and lumber manufacturer from Rymer's Ferry, (now Fontana Village) North Carolina. Mr. Rymer passed away in Jul, 1960. To this union were born six children. Two of them, Lucille and S.J. Jr. passed away in childhood. Bernice Cope Van Hooser, who owned and managed the Riverview Rest Home in McMinnville for 18 years, was fatally wounded and robbed in 1961 while operating a convalescent home in Dalton, Georgia. James DeLoy disappeared in El Paso, Texas nearly twenty years ago. Two daughters, Blanche Rymer Zielasko and Mrs. Harley P. (Gladys) Lambert survive.... Services were conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev. Russell Honeycutt and Pastor Davidson in Haley's Grove Baptist Church at Crab Orchard. Music was by the combined choirs of Crab Orchard with Mrs. Walter Stone at the piano. Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews: Richard Lambert, Eugene McMahon, John David Greene, Rev. Donald Ricks, Ira Rymer, Dallas Rymer, Vernon Rymer, Rev. Thomas Rymer, Lester Pollard and Ezra Hassler.... Interment was in Haley's Grove Cemetery with High Funeral Home, McMinnville in charge.
