Description	:	The son of Caleb and Hannah (Smith) Allen, Caleb Jr. was a jeweler and silversmith, operating in Cincinnati prior to 1833. He did business as C. Allen & Co. from 1836 until his younger brother William H. joined the firm in 1846; then as C. & W.H. Allen until his death. He employed or partnered with several other noted jewelers, such as Joseph Boyd, Thomas Rhodes, and John Gould Anthony. Read More	The son of Caleb and Hannah (Smith) Allen, Caleb Jr. was a jeweler and silversmith, operating in Cincinnati prior to 1833. He did business as C. Caleb married Caroline Hastings at Cincinnati in 1835 and with her had a large family. He died of unknown causes in October of 1873. Between the size of his family and the size of his estate (he listed real and personal property valued at $165,000 on the 1870 US census), the settlement of his estate was complicated by the city initially attempting to condemn his home for the site of a new school. They abandoned that idea in 1881. (Per the cemetery records database, the owners of lot 19 were Allen & Hastings; there is a note on his burial card that his remains were moved to another place on the same lot in 1875.)
