Cook died at 4 o’clock Sunday afternoon, at his home in this city, at the advanced age of eighty-one years. Funeral from the residence, corner of East Sixth and Bell streets at 10 o’clock tomorrow forenoon. Caleb W. Cook was born in 1810, at Waltham, Vt. He came to Dodge county in 1862. He was married in 1835 to Miss Laura Bessey, a union severed by the hand of death yesterday after the couple had pleasantly and happily trod life’s journey together for nearly fifty-six years. Deceased was the father of twelve children, five sons and seven daughters, five of whom, with their aged mother, survive him. Mr. Cook was an honorable man and a respected citizen. During his experience of four score years fighting life’s battles, he saw many hardships, frequently coming in contact with the stern realities of life in their darkest aspect but he was ever brave and firm and was a brilliant example of what ills may be overcome by a determined purpose. The late Mr. Cook may be truly called one of the pioneers of the western country, he having spent the major portion of his eventful life in helping to redeem the country from the savage and turn the wilderness into prosperous and happy homes. Before locating permanently in Nebraska deceased had resided in New York, Illinois, Missouri, Michigan and Wisconsin, being a pioneer citizen in all of the western states mentioned. ____ Fremont Daily Tribune, March 3, 1891, p. 1, col. 3 Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather the funeral of the late Caleb W. Cook was largely attended at 10 o’clock this forenoon. The Rev. W. H. Buss conducted the funeral ceremonies, holding brief services at the residence and at the grave in Ridge cemetery.
