Read More	From Nevada Evening Journal March 9, 1944 (page 4) Mrs. Calista Proctor Laid to Rest on Wednesday Afternoon Funeral rites for Mrs. Calista Proctor, 81, pioneer Nevada woman, who died at her home 505 Sixth street, Nevada, early Sunday, were held from the Morfoot Funeral home, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, with Rev. James D. Ransom of Central Presbyterian church in charge and Mrs. C. E. Armstrong at the organ. Burial followed in the Nevada cemetery. In spite of the necessary postponement of the service and the inclement weather, there was a good attendance of relatives, friends and old neighbors present to pay a final tribute of respect to one whom they had long known and so highly respected. Casket bearers were H. M. Vinsel, F. C. Tarman, F. M. Boardman, H. P. Albery, Harold Tipton and Milo Berka. The following obituary of the deceased was read by the pastor during the service. "Calista Melvina, daughter of Wm. W. and Sarah Ann Hoskins, was born Feb. 12, 1863 near Molden in Bureau county, Illinois and died at her home in Nevada Sunday morning, March 5th at the age of 81 years. As a small child she came with her parents to Iowa and settled on a farm in Grant twp., near what is now Shipley. There she grew to young womanhood, attending the rural schools. On October 23, 1879 she was united in marriage to George Proctor, son of a neighboring family. They established their home on a farm south west of Nevada, where they lived several years, later moving to Nevada. Seven children were born to this union. "She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in April 1903 and one son Roy, who died very suddenly at his home in Maxwell in July, 1928. She leaves to mourn her death two sons and four daughters. The son are Harry of Nevada and Vern of Fernald, the daughters, Mrs. Alma Banks of Nevada, Mrs. Sara Schoel of Waterloo, Frances of Nevada and Mrs. Louise Gilbert of Chicago. One sister, Mrs. Orlina Saunders of Algona, Iowa. Thirteen grandchildren, three of whom are in the service, and five great grandchildren. Mrs. Proctor was a member of Central Presbyterian church and of Nevada Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star." Mrs. Proctor was a woman of industry and thrift, devoted to her home and family, and admired by all who knew her. She was a kind and thoughtful neighbor and friend, and in her passing leaves only the kindest of memories in the hearts of a wide circle of friends, as well as among members of her own devoted family. Relatives from a distance in attendance at the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gilbert and sons James and Richard of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. F. L. Schoel of Waterloo, Mrs. Roy Proctor and daughter Mrs. Leonard Larson of Maxwell, Mr. and Mrs. George Hilburn and daughter Patty of Odebolt and Mr. and Mrs. Marcellus Sowers formerly of Wichita, Kan. The only sister of the deceased, Mrs. M. A. Sanders of Algona and her daughter, Mrs. Art Cogley after starting to Nevada were compelled to return home. The granddaughter, Mrs. Betty Schoel Prosser of Waterloo, who started for Nevada by bus, was also unable to reach here because of blocked highways.
