Description	:	SARGENT — Calvin Curtis Dowse, 91, of Sargent died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at the home of his daughter in rural Sargent. Mr. Dowse was born July 20, 1912, in a sod house near Comstock to William R. and Florence E. (Murphy) Dowse. Curt was the fourth of five sons to be raised in the Dowse Sod House, which still stands and is listed in the registry of National Historic Sites. Read More	SARGENT — Calvin Curtis Dowse, 91, of Sargent died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at the home of his daughter in rural Sargent. Mr. Dowse was born July 20, 1912, in a sod house near Comstock to William R. and Florence E. (Murphy) Dowse. Curt was the fourth of five sons to be raised in the Dowse Sod House, which still stands and is listed in the registry of National Historic Sites. Curt attended grade school at District No. 1 near Comstock and attended Comstock High School, where he played football and ran track. He married Dorothy Walton on June 17, 1933. They were fond of one another since preschool age. To this union was born one son and two daughters. Except for six months spent in Illinois working at the Pacific Boiler Works and one year spent in the Comstock area, Curt and Dorothy spent their entire married life of 70 years in the Somerford Community, farming and ranching. Curt had a passion for horses and hunting and the adventures they brought. After Curt turned 70, his horses turned into four-wheelers. His greatest passion, however, was for his family. Whether it be a picnic at the Sod House or a sporting event for his grandkids or great-grandkids, he was always there to support. Always active in the community, Curt served on the local school board, was a member of the Somerford Rodeo Club, built many floats with the Somerfeld Community Club and in more recent years, was involved with the Sod House Historical Society. Curt also was a member of the Sargent Church of Christ and had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Lou Goelz, and four brothers, Harold, Bill, Phillip and Kermit.
