He was born on August 4, 1923 to Herbert and Grace (Chilton) Mayo. He married Gladys E. Overturf at their farmhouse south of Blakesburg. He was a farmer most of his life. He liked John Deere tractors, bird watching, and was a tinkerer. He enjoyed time spent with his family. Calvin is survived by his sisters-in-law, Thelma Wood of Blakesburg, Helen (Bernard) Theulen of Blakesburg, Bettye Overturf of Arizona; nieces and nephews, Linda (Al) Roman, Tim (Ann) Overturf, Jeff (Ilene) Johnson, Susan (Bruce) Dake; great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Grace Mayo, spouse, Gladys; sisters, Helen and Beth, and brothers, Louis and Malcom. Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa with Pastor Jim Ellis officiating. Services will be livestreamed on the Sinnott Funeral Home facebook page and also the funeral home Youtube channel. You will also be able to view the services on Calvins obituary page on the website at the conclusion of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Blakesburg Fire Department, in care of Sinnott Funeral Home, 2030 Hwy 5, Albia, Iowa.
