Macumber, the son of Charles W. and Laura D. Mueller Macumber died at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 84 years, 6 months, and 13 days. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lyman, Iowa. He attended rural school Melville #4 and Audubon Community Schools. He then worked for John Renftle, Sr. as a hired man. On April 18, 1935 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Kelly in Clarinda, Iowa. They farmed in Melville Township, Audubon County for several years. In 1952 they moved to Ross where Calvin did carpentry work. They then moved to Seattle, Washington in 1961 where he worked for Boeing aircraft as a sand-blaster. In July of 1970 they moved back to Audubon where he continued to do carpentry and helped farm with Ken and Peggy. He then did carpentry for a number of years until he retired in 1983 due to illness. They maintained their home until they became residents of the Friendship Home in 1989. Dorothy died February 28, 1990. Calvin was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lyman. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge while in Washington. Calvin loved to dance and fish. Preceding him in death in addition to his wife were his son Gary Lee Macumber; his parents; his brother, Lester H. Macumber and an infant brother. Survivors include his daughter Peggy and her husband Ken Snyder of Audubon; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: his brother, Glenn A. Macumber of Wheaton, Missouri; his sisters: Opal and her husband, Cecil Boseck of Brier, Washington; and Velma Jean Wilson of Wheaton, Missouri; his sister-in-law: Lydia Jensen of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family of Mr. Macumber appreciates the many expressions of sympathy and concern. Everyone is invited to meet with the family at the former I.P.S. community room, 800 S. Market Street, Audubon, Iowa following the committal service.
