Read More	Son of William Hayes Adams and Nancy; husband of Mary Polly Jones. From Family Research: Calvin Hays Adams, son of William Hayes Adams was born Mary 5, 1812 in Wilkes County. He married Mary Polly Jones December 5, 1839. She was born in Wilkes County February 18, 1820. Polly was a daughter of Elizabeth Buttrey and her husband Wiley Jones. This couple lived on Lousey Creek and some of their descendants are still living there today. In the 1850 Federal Census it lists Calvin as being 35 with his wife Polly 31 owning 150 acres of land, his occupation being a farmer and having the following children living with him: Franklin 11; Martha 9; William 5; Sally 3; and John 2. He lived on this 150 acre tract of land in Mulberry Township his entire life. Calvin and his wife in Deed Book 13, page 546, Wilkes County Registry, in the year 1891 deeded the same 50 acres that he apparently inherited from his father to his sons James Marshall Adams and Franklin Matheson Adams. In the family Bible stated by Calvin in 1850 there is much information including a note he made on in the front that he paid 11-1/2 centers for the Bible, new. Mary Polly smoked a pipe in her later years and would even smoke it in bed. One time in fact, according to Roe Church who lives/lived in that area, she let the pipe turn upside down in her mouth, which sh apparently did very often, and the fire fell out and caught the bed on fire. Someone had to pick her up and carry her outside while others extinguished the fire in her bed. She lived to the ripe old age of 96 and I guess if she hadn't smoked she wouldn't have died so young! Calvin died ca 1893 (written before stones were photographed) and Polly died January 9, 1917. they are both buried in the Adams Family cemetery not far from the family farm. The cemetery is still there and is on land previously owned by Sam Absher's family. Calvin and Mary Polly had eleven children.
