Description	:	STEAMBOAT ROCK — Calvin James Jim Heard, 80, of Steamboat Rock, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, at his home of natural causes while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. He was born March 7, 1925, in Tracy, Minn., son of Roland and Ella Bowers Heard. He married Jane Klemme Dec. 9, 1950, in Hubbard. He graduated from Owasa High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in England during World War II as a ball turret gunner on a B17-G. Read More	STEAMBOAT ROCK — Calvin James Jim Heard, 80, of Steamboat Rock, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, at his home of natural causes while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. He was born March 7, 1925, in Tracy, Minn., son of Roland and Ella Bowers Heard. He married Jane Klemme Dec. 9, 1950, in Hubbard. He graduated from Owasa High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in England during World War II as a ball turret gunner on a B17-G. Mr. Heard served as a drill sergeant in Texas and then worked at the train depot before farming with his older brother, Rex. He later worked as a chauffeur, a service station attendant at Orvs Phillips 66, an electronics technician with Pine Lake A.V. Service, and then as a janitor at Eldora-New Providence Elementary School until his retirement in March 1990. Survived by: his wife; five sons, Jonathan of Phoenix, Tony (Brenda) and August (Stephanie), both of Wichita, Kan., Randy (Glenda) of Spring Valley, Calif., and Calvin (Mary Leigh) of Fortson, Ga.; five daughters, Susan Heard of Chula Vista, Calif., Mary Sapp of Waco, Ga., Penny (Brian) Hall of Shellsburg, Elizabeth Heard of Milwaukee, Ore., and Holly Heard of Des Moines; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth Jacobson of Windom, Minn. Preceded in death by: seven brothers, Raymond, William, Donald, Carroll, Ted, Claude and Rex; four sisters, Catherine Heard, Joy Huzl, Gladys Mounter and Dolly Stonebraker; and a son-in-law, Doug Sapp. Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Steamboat Rock, with burial in the Steamboat Rock Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by Hoover-Eiserman Post 542 American Legion. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home, Eldora, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials: may be directed to the family.
