(His birth certificate & World War I registration both list his birth date as 9 Sep 1900) CALVIN VIER KIMBREL OBITUARY Calvin Vier Kimbrel, son of Robert N. and Minnie J. Kimbrel, was born near Columbia, Ia., September 9, 1900, died at the home of Lee Wilson (a near neighbor) Sunday, Dec., 8, 1918 at 1:40 p. m., of pneumonia fol- lowing an attack of the Spanish in- fluenza, aged 18 years, 2 months and 29 days. He leaves to mourn his loss his father, who is in the Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines, and a brother, Jimmy, besides other relatives and a host of friends. Short funeral services were held at the Lee Wilson home Tuesday Dec. 10, 1918 at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. R. W. Meeker of Columbia, IA. The pall bearers were his chums and school mates: Charles Stevenson, Levi Foster, Charles and Hallie Beebout and Tom and Walter Wilson. In- terment was made in the Gosport Cemetery beside his mother, who pre- ceded him on March 25, 1916. Obituary furnished courtesy of Cindy Kimbrel-Wieland.
