Her funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday, June 5 at First Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. Candace Rae Piper, daughter of Maynard and Stella (Christopherson) Piper, was born February 24, 1953 in Clear Lake, SD. She grew up there. Candace graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1971. She would later further her education at Nettleton College, Sioux Falls, SD. Candace was united in marriage with Kurtis L. Berndt on February 26, 1972 in Clear Lake. The family moved to Brandon, SD in 1988. Candace worked for a time in medical records at McGreevy Clinic and Southeastern Behavioral Health. She was later co-owner with her husband in a number of business ventures through the years. Candace was a member of First Lutheran Church. A strong conservative, she was active in the Republican Party in South Dakota. Candace enjoyed riding motorcycle with Kurt. The couple's appreciation of active military personnel and veterans led to their membership in the Patriot Guard Riders. Candace also enjoyed crocheting, baking and cooking. She was passionate in her beliefs and always had a kind word and good advice. Above all, Candace cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, who were a blessing to her and brought her great joy. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Kurt Berndt, Sioux Falls, SD; her children, Carla Feucht and her husband, Tim, Lester, IA, Brandon Berndt and Heather Ault, Brandon, SD; five grandchildren, Gabrielle, Sadie, Robbyn, Reed, Suzie; her sister, Robbyn Gibson-Kashanski and her husband, Richard Kasahnski, Henderson, NV; and a host of other relatives and friends. Candace was preceded in death by a grandson, Jaydon, and her parents, Maynard and Stella. Candace's family requests that memorials in her memory be directed to the Physical Therapy Program at the Avera McKennan Foundation, P.O.
