Or maybe she is best remembered for her love of candy apple red, her green thumb, her collection of St. Bernard dogs, or her delicious fried chicken. Candy cultivated her love of these various enjoyments through multiple states, starting her life in Denison, Iowa. Candy never let her ties to her hometown break, to this day remembered for her skinned knees and her constant hair pulling wars with her best friend, Patty Parker. Candy came to find an outlet for her caring and compassionate ways in the nursing profession, graduating from Nebraska Methodist Nursing School. She was imminently proud of her degree, often proudly showing off her graduation picture, noting, "Aren't I hot?! That is what they say these days, right?" She became a geriatrics nurse and administrator, a profession and passion she pursued for more than 30 years. She had a deep respect for the people for whom she cared, yet could regale her friends with stories that could only be described as "the good, the bad, and the ugly". After marrying her childhood sweetheart, Denny Rowedder, and traveling to various outposts around the country while he was in the service, they settled outside of Denver in the foothills of the beautiful Rockies. Candy eventually made her way out to California as a newly single gal, joining her best friend in Los Angeles and marrying her husband of 25 years, Tim McGlade, who put up with her need for multiple dogs bigger than she was! Plus, the patience for the dogs to always have names starting with the letter "B", from Brutus, the first "B" dog, to Belle who was the last. In Candy's life, wherever her journeys took her, she always shared her respect and love with her beloved mother, Louise, keeping in daily contact. All of her great loves proved sources of strength when Candy battled and won the breast cancer fight, becoming a survivor who managed to find humor in her plight, or, as she said, "It's not like I lost anything, I never had them in the first place!" One of Candy's greatest joys was in "sharing" her best friend's daughter, Morgan. Candy would often say that sharing her daughter was the only time Pat ever shared particularly well! Morgan and Candy, known as "Nana" to Morgan, even had their own song. Candy would quietly sing in Morgan's ear the chorus to "Our House", ending every phone call, and even voicemail, with this tune. Candy is survived by her adored mother, Louise Osterlund, her caring husband, Tim McGlade, her cousin, Bill Greene, with whom she remained close, her still (somehow!) best friend, Pat Parker, her "shared" daughter (otherwise known as her Goddaughter) Morgan Parker Hogarth, and countless old school friends and professional associates. May you rest in peace with your loved ones and treasured St. Bernards (because all dogs really do go to Heaven).
