Lunenburg, May 5- All along the South Shore there will be sorrow at news of the passing of one of the most colourful veterans of the fishing inductry, Captain George Myra, who died at his home in Garden Lots this afternoon, following a week's illness. Up to the time of his passing, with exception of blindness of the last couple of years, the Captain had enjoyed good health, despite his 93 years. He continued in possession of all his faculties and was active in many ways. For over half a century he had sailed in the vessels of the fishing fleet, and was known either personally, or by reputation, to practically every man in the fishing industry along the coast of Nova Scotia. Following his years of active fishing he became boss rigger at this port, and the boats that went out from the local yards bore testimony to his skill in this direction. It is interesting to note that his only son, Captain Paul Myra, is the boss rigger here at present, following in the foot-steps of his father. The Captain was twice married. He has six daughters. He seemed to have a special sense in regard to vessels, and it is recounted that in these years of his blindness, he would often say,"There is a ship coming in the harbour," and when others in the house went to see, they would find the Captain's words had been true. He was born at Garden Lots where death called him today, and had he lived until July 24, would have been 94 years of age. In 1942 he passed the 50th. milestone in his membership in the I.O.O.F. and on that occasion, was honoured by Rising Sun Lodge with presentation of the 50-year jewel of the order.
