Thank you. . OBITUARY: . John Bacon Kilburn, who had a stroke of apoplexy Saturday night, died at his residence on South Main street yesterday evening. . Mr. Kilburn had been a resident of Rutland 47 years, and during most of this time he had been a leading merchant. About seven years ago he gave up his store on Center street and retired from business. . Mr. Kilburn was born at Shrewsbury in April, 1825, and he settled in Rutland when 26 years old. He belonged to the old Rutland light guard before the war, and he was captain of company D, 7th Vermont volunteers. For 15 years he was a member of the Rutland school board and for four years postmaster of the town. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. He made his home many years ago in the Main street house where Dr. Samuel Williams, the founder of the Rutland Herald, lived in the last century. It is one of the oldest and best preserved houses in Rutland. Mr. Kilburn's memory was very good and in his closing years he was fond of recalling early local scenes. .
