Authorities identified the victim as Max E. Knee, Lafontaine, Ind. Delbert Wolff, 122nd Fighter-interceptor Group adjutant, said Knee was on a ferry mission to Daves-Monthan Air Force Base at Tucson, Ariz. Persons living in the area said there was a "tremendous explosion" in the air before the plane fell. Mrs. Crow said neighbors told her the jet exploded in the air just as it passed over the Crow home. A native of Wabash County, Mr. Knee resided on a farm near LaFontaine. He was the son of Lewis and Pearl Ulshafer Knee, Pierceton, both of whom survive. Also surviving are the widow, Ruth; a daughter, Karen Sue, 2; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Hartzell, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. James Smith, near Treaty; a brother, Richard Knee, Evansville; a half-brother, Dean Wolfal, Wabash R.R. 3, and his grandmother, Mrs. Ella Knee, Wabash R.R. 3
