Description	:	Captain Shuler was a reserve officer when he was called back into service at the outbreak of the Korean War. He was attending the University of South Carolina Law School in Columbia when he was called back. In Korea, he was the commanding officer of Company F, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. He was wounded by shrapnel while fighting the enemy in the Old Baldy (Hill 266)- Pork Chop (Hill 255) Hill Area, near Chorwon, North Korea. He was evacuated to a MASH unit, then transferred to hospital in Tokyo. Though the wounds were, apparently, not life threatening, he died... Captain Shuler was interred in Williamsburg Presbyterian Cemetery, Kingstree, Williamsburg County, South Carolina. He left a wife and two children at his passing. Captain Shuler was the commanding officer of Company F, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. He was Wounded in Action while fighting the enemy near Chorwon, North Korea on June 16, 1952 and died at the Tokyo Army Hospital on August 24, 1952 of hepatitis. ** For his outstanding leadership and valor, Captain Shuler was awarded the Silver Star, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
