Description	:	Civil War Union Army Officer. He was commissioned as Captain and commander of Company H, 26th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on September 2, 1862. He led his troops through the December 1862 Battle of Fredericksburg, and the May 1863 Battle of Chancellorsville. On July 5, 1863 he led a portion of his men, in conjuction with troops from Vermont, across the Rappahannock River at Franklin's Crossing, Virginia, for the purpose of silencing skirmishing Confederate troops there.
