Stennett Rafuse, late of Somerville, Mass., following a few days illness of pneumonia, came as a severe shock to his immediate relatives and was received with profound regret in this community where he was well and favourably known. Captain Rafuse moved to Bridgewater about twenty years ago, but for the past three years resided at Somerville, where he had been employed ashore. Well known as a master mariner he went to sea at the age of fourteen and sailed for a number of years out of Nova Scotia ports, and Saint John, N.B., to the West Indies and South America and was identified with the firms Hendry's, Liverpool and Elkins, Saint John. He was a son of Mrs. Sabina and the late Zenas Rafuse, of Conquerall Bank, and his passing, at the early age of 57 years, severs the first link in a family circle of twelve children. Six sisters and five brothers survive: Mrs. Joseph Weagle, Imperoyal, Halifax county; Mrs. Effie Goodwin, Pawtucket, R.I.; Mrs. Albert Burns, Jacksonville, Florida; Mrs. W.A. Heckman, Conquerall Bank; and Miss Myrtle Rafuse, R.N., New York City; J. Stephen and Archie, Bridgewater; George, Conquerall Bank; Judson G., of MacGregors Motors, Halifax; and Hugh, Cambridge, Mass., Mrs. J. Richards of Pleasantville is a step-sister. Captain Rafuse is also survived by his widow, who with her only daughter, Marguerite, will accompany the remains here on Saturday. Stennett, an only son, is in the employ of the Blue Rose Tea Room on King Street. The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon from Grace United Church under the auspices of LaHave Lodge, No. 60, I.O.O.F., of which the deceased was a member, and despite inclement weather was very largely attended by relatives and friends. The service at the church was conducted by Rev. H. Hatt. Two hymns,"Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Lead, Kindly Light" were sung by the vested choir. W.A. Gow, Chas. Brown, H. Wentzell , and Z.F. Martin, brother Oddfellows, acted as pall bearers and the beautiful ritualistic service for the burial of the dead was carried out at the grave. The floral tributes were beautiful.
