Widow: Martha B Herrold, m. 1855 Athens OH ********************** Captain Thomas Murray Drake Pilcher was born near Athens, April 22, 1832. His parents dying before he was sixteen, he came to Athens and served three years in learning the cabinet trade. In December 1851, he went to California, where he remained until 1854. In 1856 he entered business with W. B. Bartlett, under the name of Barlett and Pilcher. In November, 1861, he assisted in recruiting Company H, 75th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and was elected captain, receiving his commission from Governor Tod. Owing to ill health he resigned in May, 1862. He was the superintendent of the Herrold coal mine at the mouth of Monday Creek. He was afterward associated in business with Joseph Herrold and with Hon. E. H. Moore. His death occurred November 14, 1883. (from wjw)
