Served in the Civil War first as a Sergeant with the 13th Ohio Battery, then after the Battle of Shiloh he was transferred to the 14th Ohio Battery Light Artillery. Served first as Quartermaster Sgt. then was Comissioned 2nd Lieutenant April 13th 1864, Promoted to 1st Lieut.
