Description	:	Captain William McGill was born in Pennsylvania and was the son of William McGill and Betsy Bell. Both parents lived in Pennsylvania for some time before Captain William McGill moved to South Carolina. Captain William and his wife Martha Shaw Henry were married in April of 1804 in South Carolina. Mrs. Henry, Martha's Mother lived with them in the York, SC area before the entire family moved to another area of York SC. Read More	Captain William McGill was born in Pennsylvania and was the son of William McGill and Betsy Bell. Both parents lived in Pennsylvania for some time before Captain William McGill moved to South Carolina. Captain William and his wife Martha Shaw Henry were married in April of 1804 in South Carolina. Mrs. Henry, Martha's Mother lived with them in the York, SC area before the entire family moved to another area of York SC. This area was later to become the King's Creek SC area where all of them lived until their deaths. Tale of the mother objecting to Martha getting married because Martha was too young. Captain William McGill answered this by saying Martha would not have anything to do except embroider. Martha was only 15 years old. Captain William McGill lists Pennslyvania on the 1850 York SC Census as his birthplace. The children and other relatives tell the tale of Martha Henry's Grave filling up with water before she could be buried. A new grave was dug and she was buried in a different location. The relatives explain that this is why her grave is not beside Capt. William McGill. She is buried about 60 feet away with her father and a sister. Her mother's tombstone is not with these.
