He died of Asiatic cholera while visiting his daughter Anna Maria Harbaugh and son-in-law Benjamin Emmert of Beaver Creek, Washington, County, MD. He was buried at the Dunker graveyard at Beaver Creek, Washington County, Maryland. There is a gravestone in Prospect Hill Cemetery at York, PA., in his memory. From the records it is known that in 1755, Benjamin Franklin, then Postmaster General of Penna., obtained 150 wagons and 250 pack horses in York, Lancaster and Cumberland Counties for Braddock's Expedition to Fort Duquesne, now Pittsburgh. Yost Harbaugh was then 14 years old but he a was a teamster in Braddock's expedition. In the Revolutionary War he was appointed Captain, York County Militia, 11 September 1776, and served in the campaign in New Jersey, in Colonel William Rankin's Battalion York County, Associators. He was again active in the campaign around Philadelphia in the autumn of 1777, (Ref. G. O. Seilhamer, General Notes, page 49, See Revolutionary War list of soldiers in the introduction.) Captain Yost was a very large man over six feet tall. He often rode horse-back, wearing a blanket in cold weather instead of an over coat. Sometimes he journeyed on foot from choice. He was a member of the Legislature from York County in 1799. Eva Harbaugh, b. 21 July 1766 married Daniel Wolf; (3) Anna Catharine Harbaugh, b. 8 December 1769, d. 28 February 1859 married (first) John Walter and (second) John Fisher, and Casper Spangler. (4) Anna Maria Harbaugh, b. 9 March 1774, died 13 1831, married Benjamin Emmert. (5) John Harbaugh, b. 22 January 1776, d 1838, married Anna Margaret Becker. (6.) Maria Margaret Harbaugh, b. 28 December 1778 d. January 1847. (7.) Jacob Harbaugh, b. 25 December 1781 died December 11 December 1830, married Anna Maria Loucks. (8) Susanna Harbaugh, b. 13 September 1784, d. 7 December 1813, married Johannes Lehr. (9) Elizabeth Harbaugh.
