Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley Church in Lynch, Neb., with the Rev. Gene Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Carrol-Binkerd Post 228 of Lynch. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 3 p.m. with Don Wood of First United Methodist Church in Sioux City officiating, at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. Visitation will resume 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Carl A. Jetter was born Feb. 15, 1912, in rural Shelby County, Iowa, one of 12 children of John and Caroline W. (Bohnsack) Jetter. He moved to Denison, Iowa, and graduated from Denison High School in 1933. After graduation, he attended Civilian Conservation Corps. Shortly after, he moved to Lynch, Neb., where he worked for the phone company and met his wife, Mary J. Norwood. The couple was united in marriage on June 17, 1936, in Burke, S.D. He went to work for the U.S. Government in June 2, 1942, where he worked as a signal corps inspector until he enlisted in the U.S. Army on Nov. 26, 1943, at Fort Crook, Neb. He was sent to Camp Crowder, Mo., and was a pole climber instructor for a time. Following that, he attended repeaterman school, later he was assigned to the 79th Division overseas. But while waiting for his boat, which was sunk coming from Europe, he was then assigned to Fort Holabird, as a wire chief which was an automatic switching center. He remained at Fort Holabird, in Baltimore, Md., until he was honorably discharged on May 2, 1946. Being a sergeant at the time of separation and being at Fort George, in Meade, Md., he decided to stay as a wire chief and as a communication supervisor at Fort Holabird and Camp David and worked at Fort Meade as a side line. He retired from Fort Holabird and the U.S. Government in June 1972. In the early 1980s, the couple moved to the Sioux City area, where they could be closer to their family. He was a volunteer for the Disabled American Veterans. He also was a former commander of the American Legion Monahan Post 64 in Sioux City. He was also a member of a gun club, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed helping people, woodworking and writing. Survivors include his wife of Sioux City; a nephew; two nieces; a sister-in-law, Marianna Maupin of Denison; and many other nieces, nephews and relatives.
