Folkers died April 15 at his home in Monticello, following a brief illness. Carl August Folkers was born March 18, 1909, in Jones County, the son of Herman and Augusta Toenjes Folkers. He received his education in the Jones County schools and married Ida Mae Pillard on Sept 1, 1937. She preceded him in death in 1979. Mr. Folkers farmed in Jones County for many years, retiring in 1970. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Anamosa. Mr. Folkers is survived by a sister, Lena Ladehoff of Monticello; a son, Herman Folkers of Mason City; two daughters, Lynda Dirks of Anamosa and Carla Skibba of Milwaukee, Wis.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Casketbearers were Kenneth Streeper, Dean Zirkelbach, Richard Schoon, Michael Folkers, Robert Stephenson and Dean Hayen. Goettsch Funeral Home in Monticello was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to the church.
