Description	:	Carl was the son of Jacob J. and Caroline Hammel. Caroline's maiden name is unknown at this time. Jacob was a Methodist minister. Carl was one of seven children born to Jacob and Caroline. His siblings were Tabitha, Paul, Edwin, Elsie, Edward and George. Carl was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on January 26, 1891. Carl was one of seven children born to Jacob and Caroline. His siblings were Tabitha, Paul, Edwin, Elsie, Edward and George. Carl was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on January 26, 1891. In the the latter part of 1916 or the early part of 1917, Carl married Frida Hulda Obenland, of Clay Center, Kansas. Carl worked in the local bank as a cashier, while Frida kept house for the family. Carl started working in the local bank when he was 16 years old. When the bank merged with another bank and moved out of the building they had been in, Carl stayed behind in the old bank building and opened his own business selling insurance and real estate. Later, Northwestern Federal Savings and Loan opened in the same building. At that time, Carl went to work for that company. Carl worked in the same building all of his life. Carl and Frida's first child, a daughter they named Ruth Helen, was born in Clay Center on July 7, 1917. In 1925, a son named James Carl was born. On June 5, 1917, Carl registered for the draft for WWI. He listed his occupation as an assistant cashier at Farmer State Bank in Clay Center, Kansas. His description on the registration says that Carl was tall and slender, with gray eyes and brown hair. In 1930, Carl and Frida owned their own home at 409 Lane St. in Clay Center. The house was valued at $4,000. Carl and Frida lived next door to Frida's sister, Emma. Carl died on March 13, 1969 in Clay Center, Kansas.
