Kugler, son of John and Emanline Kugler, was born January 11, 1884 at Minburn, Iowa and died December 12, 1956 at the Freeman Nursing Home in Kearney, Nebraska where he had been a patient for several weeks. He attained the age of 72 years, 11 months, and 1 day. When five years of age, he moved with his parents to a farm in Hayes County, where he grew to manhood. Mr. Kugler was married to Pearl Mabel Bright in 1910. They were the parents of five sons, two of whom preceded their father in death. A motorcycle accident claimed the life of one son, Merle, in 1937 and another son, Arvene, was killed in 1950 while serving with the U.S. Marine Corps Air Force. The Kugler family resided in Weeping Water, Nebraska before coming to Culbertson in 1914. Mr. Kugler's first business venture in Culbertson was the operation of a candy store and bakery. In 1923 he established the Kugler Oil Company, in which he was active until about two years ago, when failing health necessitated his retirement. The deceased was a past president of the Culbertson Community Club and had also served as a member of the local school board. He was married to Mrs. Ora Schroeder in 1943. Survivors include his widow, Ora; three sons, Charles of Fort Lyons, Colorado, Keith of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Russell of Culbertson; one step-daughter, Mrs. Joe Mettenbrink of Kearney, Nebraska; two brothers, Silas of Moorefield, Nebraska, and Ralph of Culbertson; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Korell of Culbertson; two grandsons and three granddaughters.
