He was united in marriage to Etta Butner also of the Ten Mile community on March 29, 1908. To this union was born two children: Mrs. Willie Esterbrook and Corrine of the home, who with, the widow survive. Other close relatives who are left to mourn his passing are: the son-in- law, Willie Esterbrook; two sisters, Nora Bourk of Boise City. Okla., and Sue Davis of Parshall, N. Dak.; and two brothers, Loyd and Rodney of Rose Glen, N. Dakota. Besides his immediate family he leaves a number of relatives and a host of friends, who will miss his genial manner. He valued his friends and in his quiet manner endeared himself to many. He was a devoted husband and father and a good neighbor. He spent his entire life near Ten Mile. At the age of sixteen, he started his chosen life's work, blacksmithing, and for 41 years served the community in this capacity. Bert, as he was generally known, passed quietly away, Tuesday night, January 12, 1937 at 11 o'clock, making his span of life 97 years, 6 months and 18 days. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from Ten Mile Baptist Church by the Rev. K. H. Ladman, with interment in Maplewood cemetery at Clarence.
